Reuben and Katie Martin work with Baptist Missionary Society in Rouen, France. In December 2005, Katie and Reuben moved to Massy, near Paris, for language preparation. In summer 2007 they moved to Rouen to begin church planting work in a tough and challenging area. In this video Reuben shares the tough church planting problems he's encountering.
Before studying at Spurgeon’s College, Reuben worked as a policeman and Katie as a geography teacher. In January 1999 they began work with BMS in Croatia, assisting the Baptist Union there. From November 2000 until July 2005 they lived in the city of Dubrovnik where, together with a Croatian ministerial couple, they planted a Baptist church.
Katie and Reuben are members of Leigh Road Baptist Church, in Essex.
***UPDATE TO STORY***
At the end of January 2011 Katie and Reuben Martin brought their time with BMS World Mission and in France to a close. After 12 years church planting in mainland Europe (7 years in Croatia and 5 years in France) they then planned to move back to Britain for Reuben to become the pastor of West Croydon Baptist Church, London.
Reuben said, "The last 12 years have been great fun. Croatia was fantastic - planting a church in Dubrovnik - and much of our heart is still there . France has been tougher - incarnational mission on an inner-city estate in Rouen - but there are increasing signs of God's Kingdom amongst this community. It has been a privilege to serve with BMS World Mission and with our colleagues (British, Croatian and French) in making Jesus known here in Europe."
