We moved to Newton Abbot, south Devon, in early August 2010 having been called by SWBA to church plant in the community. We moved from a place called Mersea Island in Essex where Sarah and I both grew up.  I had previously worked as an oyster fisherman for my father as well as working part time for my local church as a evangelist.  My wife Sarah was expecting our second daughter Lizzie at the time of moving which turned out to be perfect timing in terms of helping us get to know people, taking our minds off the reality of what we are doing, and giving our eldest daughter Grace something really positive to look forward to.

Hannah and Dave Batchelor are church planting with Urban Expression on the Troydale Estate

Dave and I moved to Manchester in 2004 after being involved with Urban Expression in East London for 3 and 6 years respectively. We chose to move to Newton Heath because my parents, Derek and Maureen Purnell, had been dreaming of planting on the Troydale Estate for a number of years. They have been on the estate for 26 years and are still living in the house I grew up in.

My wife and I have been involved in full-time church planting since 1993 -- having been invited to England by the UK Fellowship of Churches of Christ - we are enabled to be full-time with spiritual and financial support from sixteen congregations and forty families in the USA. God has blessed us with successful experiences co-leading (and then releasing to indigenous leadership) two church plants in the Midlands. They were both 'traditional' churches in that they have weekly gathered worship, small groups, youth programmes, children's work, a contemporary feel, an informal character, and are led by a leadership team. Both churches met in local schools.
