Starting from scratch with a blank piece of paper. Does that appeal to you?
South West Baptist Association is seeking to appoint a person or couple to head up a church planting project in the market town of Newton Abbot, Devon.
Newton Abbot Baptist Church closed earlier in 2009. SWBA now holds the assets, and we have ringfenced those funds to support a pioneering project in Newton Abbot. Newton Abbot is a thriving market town, and our vision is to see a brand new worshipping community coming together from scratch. That's where our vision ends - and yours starts. Tell us what your vision would be if you were given the opportunity to come and work in Newton Abbot. You have a blank piece of paper - it's over to you.
Our commitment is to fund ministry for three years, including housing, with the aim of having a viable group in place by the end of that period which is able to fund its own ongoing ministry, at least in part. We will commit to putting in place appropriate support and accountability structures, and within those giving you the freedom to do things your way.
A more detailed document about this project is available by emailing our administrator Chris Wooding This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it You can find out more about our Association by visiting our website www.swbaptists.org.uk
We will be inviting interested parties to come and meet with us informally in the first instance, and to have a look around the town. You will then be invited to submit your application for the role, which will include setting out in more detail your personal vision for the project if you were to be appointed. Closing date for applications is 8 January 2010, and formal interviews will be held on Tuesday 19 January 2010.
Person specification:
You will have the ability to form a clear and coherent vision, and to translate this into a well organised plan of action with clearly identified goals for the initial three-year period of this project.
You will have a winning way with people, the ability to draw others around you to share in your vision and goals. You will be a leader but also a team player, actively seeking out others to work with you and play key roles in the project.
You will have excellent diplomacy skills, able to establish positive relationships with the other churches in the town and nearby area and finding ways of working together.
You will have a passion for reaching the unchurched and communicating the gospel of Christ to them in a way that is meaningful. You personally must have the gifts to be able to relate to the unchurched and build relationships with them.
